Osaka Ukiyo-e Museum

The Osaka Ukiyo-e Museum opened in July 2019 in the Shinsaibashisuji Shopping Arcade in Osaka.

At this museum, you can enjoy a close-up look at ukiyo-e prints, which Japan is proud of around the world.

It is said that ukiyo-e first emerged in the late 16th century as a form of depicting the lives of ordinary people in Kyoto, and in the 18th century it became popular in Edo (present-day Tokyo) and spread as popular culture.

At this museum, we exhibit a large number of ukiyo-e prints related to Osaka and Kyoto, including those by the four great masters of ukiyo-e: Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, and Toshusai Sharaku.

Please enjoy the "now" of the Edo period, created by "nameless carvers and printers" and elaborately drawn by ukiyo-e artists.
