11/25 Joruri Live (Starts at 16:00)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
As a key measure to re-acknowledge and revitalize the history of Dotonbori theater district, a free performance of su joruri, a style of puppetry that is linked to kabuki and bunraku, will be held once a month at Namiki-za, a recreated Edo period playhouse that is wheelchair accessible from the street.
After an entertaining explanation of su joruri, a style of puppetry that is linked to kabuki and bunraku, that is easy for beginners to understand, even beginners will be able to enjoy a performance by Nozawa Matsuya, a leading kabuki performer.
This will allow people to gain basic knowledge of the story and at the same time become familiar with musical expression, lowering the barrier to getting into bunraku and kabuki, expanding the fan base, and ultimately contributing to the branding of Minami as an entertainment district with a wide range of kabuki and bunraku.
