ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Fukushige uses silkscreen and pen to create her works, a technique known as "residence production," in which she travels and stays in the local area to create her works.
Fukushige's style and technique may appear nostalgic, romantic, and peaceful at first glance, but she is excited to say, "Traveling isn't all good!"
Using her works as a record of her travels is a more subjective and emotional method of communicating information than photographs or videos, but it is not overly edited like text.
Fukushige's works feature a variety of unique patterns, which evoke the second most primitive form of communication after words, even more so than hieroglyphics.
As she says, deep within the layers are eerie motifs and Japanese landscapes, which are her starting point, but they seem to represent the inherent human emotions and chaos of the brain, a mixture of positive, negative, future, and past that she felt during her travels.
This will be Fukushige's first exhibition in about seven years, since giving birth and the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope you will look closely at the layers of pen and silkscreen and the scenes and psychology behind them.
You will be able to appreciate the exhibition more if you can hear about the artist's travels while viewing it, so we encourage you to come at the reception or when the artist is present.
